Special Activities
8 Principles Songs

Lyra Harada is spearheading our 8 Principles Song project. We are recording three new tunes so we can include all 8 Principles. Singing them helps us remember them all.

We hope all PreK-12th graders will participate!

The final video will be similar to the recordings you have seen our Choir offer in online worship services. We will show the 8 Principles Song videos June 6th, RE Sunday. The editor needs two weeks for editing so the hard deadline to submit your recordings is May 16th, a little over two weeks from now.

Read more about the project and find video filming instructions HERE. Contact Lyra Harada with questions (musicalyra13@gmail.com).  Thank you very much in advance for participating. We look forward to your submissions!

Write Notes to Our Bridging Youth

What a year to graduate from high school and transition from youth into young adulthood! Please let our HS seniors know they have a faith community that loves and supports them. Submit a short note to be included in hymnals gifted by the congregation. These hymnals will be an enduring reminder of beloved music, words, and community.

Sunday, June 6th, we will celebrate Bridging for these eleven 12th graders: Zachary Breault, Logan Breneman-Pennas, Ethan Fleck, Christopher Johnson, Madison Kung, Wesley Miller, Remie Suvanto, Jade Swiss, Maggie Young, Hannah Zipkin, and Will Zisson.  Click HERE to submit your note of congratulations and encouragement for the youth. The form will be available until Sunday, May 23rd. Thank you!

New 8 Principles Songs
Featuring Our Children & Youth!

From Lyra Harada, Children’s Music Director and Educator

Dear Parents:

I hope you are all well!  As part of the congregation’s work on adopting the 8th Principle, the children’s class learned about the Principle and created the children’s version they will use.  The children then set out to update the 7 Principles Song to include the 8th.  Since the tune we have been using did not easily incorporate the 8th, the children explored new tunes and ended up with three: “Seasons of Love” from Rent, “Do You Hear the People Sing” from Les Misérables, and “My Favorite Things” from The Sound of Music

For RE Sunday on June 6th, we are preparing a synthesized virtual performance of these newly created 8 Principles Songs featuring as many of our children and youth as possible.  The final video will be similar to the recordings you have seen our Choir offer in online worship services.

We are inviting all children and youth, PreK-12th grade, to film themselves singing the three songs so they can be in the video!

Instructions are below.  Please don’t hesitate to contact me via email (musicalyra13@gmail.com) should you have any questions and/or concerns. (You can add Tracy and Adam on emails, too.)

Thank you very much in advance for submitting the videos. We look forward to your submissions!

Regards, Lyra

INSTRUCTIONS

§  Film your video in LANDSCAPE (horizontal) mode with good lighting.

§  Sing along with the sample recording created by Laura Sehdeva and Adam Kent.  Important: Have your child/youth wear earphones to prevent the audio of the model recording from bleeding into your video.  Just play the samples below through earphones and record your child/youth singing along.

§ You can record three separate videos (one for each song) or record all three together, leaving space between the songs so we can separate them for editing.

§ Once the recording is completed, please upload your videos to
this Google Drive folder.

  • PLEASE MAKE SURE that the video/file name has the name of your child and the song title. (Examples: Lyra Harada People, Lyra Harada Seasons, Lyra Harada My Favorite Things).

§  Submit videos by May 16th, a little over two weeks from today.  The editor needs at least two weeks to compile the videos.
